Burnished aquatint by Ramiro de Undabeytia Ramiro de Undabetia was born in Madrid in 1952. He studied at the Escuela Nacional de Madrid from 1962-1969. He came in contactwith engraving at the workshop of Antonio Lorenzo1967 then collaborated with “el Grupo 15” from 1971-1985. He established his own workshop to givetechnical classes in engraving in 1979. Undabeytia has been a professor, teaching engraving in the Centro Cultural NicholasSalmerón, and has worked as an illustrator of editorials. Edition number 55

A Day at the Fair etching by Scott FitzGerald Often called amodem day old master, Scott FitzGerald works alone in his studio creating onlya few prints each year. A 14" by 20" copper plate filled withmicroscopic detail may take 600 hours of careful work. Each print becomes aminiature world waiting to be explored. Although a dedicated artist at an earlyage, Scott was not aware of the art of etching until his sophomore year incollege. He recalls his first experience with the traditional art form, "Iknew at once that this was my medium. I liked the technical challenge of thedifficult process and the magic of pulling a print off an etching plate." After receivinghis Masters degree in art from California State University , Fullerton in1974, Scott went on to teach at the University for two years. Since then he hasdevoted himself to printmaking and has produced over 250 prints. As an artistwith a strong interest in history, Scott began in 1974 to do a series of 15prints of local historical landmarks. He has worked on a group of etchings asillustrations for Robert Louis Stevenson's A Child's Garden of Verses withthe prominent English printer John Randle at the Whittington Press. He has alsocollaborated on a project with writer Ray Bradbury. Perhaps his most ambitiouswork has been a series of eight antique shops, rendered with such intricacythat they took ten years to complete. Each new print in the series includes animage of the previous print no bigger than a postage stamp, yet in surprisingclarity. About his work Scottsays, " I want to create images thatare warm and inviting, where there is always something more to discover. Ibelieve that good art continues to grow and reveals itself with time. Hehas been a working professional art director for over 20 years but never losthis initial love for printmaking. Although heavily influenced by Whistler and by local Montereyartist/etcher Armin Hansen, Justin has a unique style that combines years ofstudying the old masters and his own fresh approach to printmaking.

In general, it’s a reflection to my last China trip and having seen the Moon and Sun Pagodas in Guilin!
In humor works I like to put things on wheels...it can be fragility or insecurity of life and knowledge but in the main part it is giving dynamic to a picture compared to a still-life.
The vehicle became a dragon and a fish head - some of the strongest symbols in Chinese philosophy.
Dragon: might, power, divine protection, emperor, procreation, the male
Fish: abundance, wealth, prosperity, endurance
Pagodas: in the origin they are connected to Buddhism, buildings to keep some relics of Buddha or enlightened monks, since around 600 years they became parallel even common buildings.
For my European eyes they are a kind of landmark (as any tower) but also an unusual architecture, an interesting subject to use. -Jochen Kublik

Her bold colors are made by“spot-rocking”, using multiple plates, masking and some hand-coloring. “ Throughout my life, I have been fortunateenough to travel extensively. From an early age I was exposed to avariety of cultural aesthetics. During such adventures I absorbedeverything from primitive folk art to the wildly ornate theatrics of Baroqueembellishment and the ariel feats of Gothic cathedrals. I also becamefascinated with the myths and narratives so abundant in every corner of theworld. Because of this focus, I never felt an affinity with abstractexpressionism. In spite of growing up in the 60’s and 70’s when itflourished so, I chose to virtually ignore it as an influence and insteadbecame somewhat shamelessly representational. As such, my influencesamongst the contemporary fine artists of the world are few. I do creditthe usual old masters in particular Albrecht Durer whose engravings were aninspiration to take up a somewhat religious zeal toward printmaking while incollege. However, though it is almost taboo to say it, during my“formative years” I fairly worshiped illustrators in general. Alreadyheaded in the direction of having an illustrative style, it seemed quitenatural that I should gravitate to those whose work exhibited a mastership ofillusionism. Sharon Mitchell has regularly moved between naturalstudies and the pursuit of images that convey a sense of theater, emphasize thegrace and structural integrity inherent in natural forms, and produce an encounterwith the dramatic, the bizarre and the humorous.
