DANIEL BEUGNIOT

Daniel Beugniot, who signed his prints (dit) Dul, was born in Bordeaux in 1954 and passed away in April 2010.

Daniel Beugniot spent many years teaching engraving to visual arts students at Montaigne-Bordeaux 3 University. In 1985, he partnered with Gérard Trignac to found Estampe d'Aquitaine. He graduated from the Bordeaux School of Fine Arts with a national diploma in Fine Arts, and  then completed plans for many buildings during a year at the School of Architecture.

The research conducted for a series of engravings on the Bordeaux vineyards led Daniel Beugniot to invent a paper engraving technique that he exploited in his later works. On the basic matrix, he added pieces of torn paper, which he fixed with glue. The surfaces were worked with tools that produced dots and stripes, carving into the surface. The different inkings of these levels created an overlay of several colors that gave his prints their unique texture and depth.
