Etching by Barbara Pihos edition of 50 Barbara Pihos was born in Quincy Illinois. After high school she took a few credits at Western Illinois University and stopped her education to have a family. At the age of 40, after her girls had left home, she took a printmaking course at Elgin Community College and fell in love with the medium. She has now been producing etchings for over 20 years. She recently took 5 years offto attend to health problems but is now back to creating her etching plates usingtraditional techniques. She uses acombination of line and aquatint methods, alternating between drawing andpainting on a copper plate before repeatedly submersing it in acid. She continues to live in Illinois
