unique intaglio by Pamela Takigawa Owl Pamela was born in Los Angeles and lived thereuntil 1970 when she moved to the Monterey Peninsula. The experience of having her portrait paintedat age 5 captured her imagination and awoke in her a longing to create with themagic of paint. Since that early age,she has expressed herself through her art. A passion for nature was fostered by summers spent at the family cabinin the mountains of Southern California. Takigawa studied painting and art history atPasadena City College and Monterey Peninsula College. She studied fine art printmaking at theUniversity of California at Santa Cruz. Painting and printmaking each provide distinct andunique opportunities for Takigawa to render her feelings artistically. In her paintings, the viewer senses aconversation between the subject and the paint-loaded brush. Fine art printmaking is a collaborationbetween an artist and an etching press. Pamela’s monotypes are one of a kind. They are created by painting on a flat, unaltered plate. Then the image is transferred to the paperusing the pressure provided by a press. She savors the moment each time she lifts the paper off the inked platerevealing the print.
